New Jersey Policy Perspective supports governor's call for PJM reform

This week, nine governors from the PJM region sent a letter to the PJM Board of Managers. The governors urged the board to approve new members suggested by the states, meet with them during the July 23 member meeting, and form a formal group of PJM governors. They committed to working with PJM to provide affordable and reliable power. This letter was sent shortly after the July 2025 PJM capacity auction closed, but before its results were announced.

In response, New Jersey Policy Perspective (NJPP) issued a statement through Alex Ambrose, a policy analyst at NJPP. Ambrose stated that "PJM has had years to create a more transparent voting process, improve its governance, and lower customer bills." He emphasized that New Jersey families are paying more for electricity and noted that Governor Murphy and his allies are seeking not just participation but also collaboration. "The message they are sending is loud and clear: this is PJM’s chance to change from being a barrier to affordable, reliable energy to becoming a partner instead," he added.
