The Attorney General’s Office of Public Integrity and Accountability is investigating a police-involved shooting that took place on July 28, 2025, in Newark, New Jersey. The incident resulted in one adult male civilian being shot. Authorities have not released the man's identity. No law enforcement officers were injured during the encounter.
According to initial findings, members of the United States Marshals Service NY/NJ Regional Fugitive Task Force were working with Newark police officers to serve an arrest warrant related to attempted murder and other charges.
Law enforcement encountered the individual inside a residence on Irvine Turner Boulevard near West Bigelow Street in Newark. According to officials, "the man began firing gunshots. Officers subsequently returned fire and the man was struck and wounded. He was transported to University Hospital in Newark for treatment." Police say that a rifle and a handgun were recovered from the home after a search.
Authorities stated that the investigation is ongoing and no further details are available at this time.
