A recent episode of “Minding Your Business” on News 12+ featured a discussion about a proposed rule from the New Jersey Department of Labor. The proposal would change how independent contractors are classified, potentially making many more workers employees of the companies they serve.
Kim Kavin, co-founder of Fight for Freelancers, expressed concern over the proposal’s impact on self-employed individuals. “It's important because what's being attacked is our fundamental freedom to hang out a shingle and go into business for ourselves,” Kavin said during her conversation with Bob Considine. “That's the thing they're trying to take away.”
Elissa Frank, Vice President of Government Affairs at NJBIA, also participated in the discussion with Considine.
“Minding Your Business” is produced by NJBIA and has received recognition in recent years. The show has won seven Telly Awards over the past three years, including a gold 2024 Telly Award in the Interview & Talk Show category.
