ACLU-NJ launches Vote Your Values initiative ahead of 2025 state elections

The ACLU of New Jersey has introduced the Vote Your Values initiative, aiming to boost civic engagement and voter turnout in the state's upcoming elections. The program will launch ahead of the 2025 election, a significant event as voters will select a new governor and fill all seats in the General Assembly.

Alejandra Sorto, previously a campaign strategist with the organization since 2019, has been promoted to Associate Director of Civic Engagement to lead this effort. She plans to expand the organizing team and grow the volunteer program, which currently includes more than 15,000 participants across New Jersey. The initiative focuses on civic education, issue advocacy, and electoral engagement to help communities use their voting power.

ACLU-NJ Executive Director Amol Sinha stated: “As fundamental freedoms face unprecedented threats, it’s crucial that New Jerseyans vote like their rights depend on it, because they do. I’m proud to have Alejandra leading this vital part of our work to ensure the power of the people is felt at the polls. Together, we can make our voices heard and demand that the leaders we elect stand up for New Jerseyans, safeguard our rights, and help build a better future for everyone who calls our state home.”

The organization says its goal is to increase voter participation as part of its broader mission to protect and advance civil liberties in New Jersey.

“We all deserve an inclusive and representative democracy where every voice is heard, loud and clear,” said Alejandra Sorto. “I’m excited to begin this new role to help New Jerseyans advocate for policies that serve our communities and demand bold, courageous action from lawmakers. Voting is power, and that power belongs to the people.”
