Amazon’s Black Employee Network announced that Assemblywoman Tennille R. McCoy was named Community Servant of the Year during the organization’s annual gathering on September 10, 2025. The award was presented by BEN national president Bri Hogan.
Amazon’s Black Employee Network (BEN) is an employee-led affinity organization with more than 13,500 members globally and 28 corporate chapters. It supports Black employees and helps drive inclusion, diversity, and equity across Amazon and Amazon Web Services (AWS). BEN works to build pipelines of future Black talent through mentoring and leadership programs.
According to Amazon, a third-party racial equity audit has been conducted in the U.S. to review policies, practices, and programs for racial impacts among its hourly workforce. The audit included in-person listening sessions, surveys, interviews, and document reviews to understand where inequities exist. As a result, Amazon has enhanced its hiring, promotion, and onboarding processes to be more inclusive.
Amazon’s inclusion, diversity & equity (ID&E) team runs programs like BEN Rise and Management Leaders for Tomorrow (MLT) to accelerate leadership development for underrepresented groups. It has created leadership retreats and scholarships and supports employee resource groups (affinity groups) to uphold a culture where employees of different backgrounds feel included. These efforts reflect Amazon’s ongoing investment in diversity across gender, race, and other identities.
Assemblywoman Tennille R. McCoy represents New Jersey’s 14th Legislative District and is the first person of color elected to this seat. She has held senior HR leadership roles in finance, government, and nonprofit sectors, including UBS and Covenant House International. McCoy also co-chairs the New Jersey Black Women’s Collective and serves on multiple nonprofit boards.
