PATH suspends service between Harrison and Journal Square for weekend construction

PATH service between Harrison and Journal Square stations will be suspended in both directions from 2:30 a.m. Saturday, October 11, through 5 a.m. Monday, October 13, due to ongoing track construction and repair work. During this period, PATH will provide free shuttle buses to transport passengers between Harrison and Journal Square as well as between Newark-Penn Station and Journal Square.

This marks the fourth of six planned weekends this fall in which service will be suspended for track reconstruction. According to PATH, these outages are being used to install and test four switches that will allow trains to move more efficiently from one track to another and provide greater operational flexibility.

Additional outages are scheduled for October 25-26 (from 11:59 p.m. Friday through 5 a.m. Monday) and November 1-2 (from 2:30 a.m. Saturday through 5 a.m. Monday).

The fall weekend suspensions are being coordinated with other service adjustments on the New Jersey-bound 33 St-JSQ via HOB line that started in June 2025. These adjustments are part of broader rail replacement and track stabilization efforts at multiple PATH stations.

The infrastructure improvements form part of the Port Authority’s ongoing two-year $430 million PATH Forward program, which aims to rehabilitate and modernize the commuter railroad system that is now 117 years old.

"PATH will provide free shuttle buses between Harrison and JSQ and between Newark-Penn Station and JSQ during these service outages."
