Twelve RVCC students selected for Princeton's Transfer Scholars Initiative

Twelve Raritan Valley Community College (RVCC) students have been selected to participate in Princeton University’s Transfer Scholars Initiative (TSI), a summer program designed for community college students. The program, which runs from June 29 to August 16, is housed in the Emma Bloomberg Center for Access and Opportunity.

The RVCC students chosen for the Princeton TSI are Archita Gupta, Tanaya Dhumale, Holly Rodriguez, Samantha Michals, Siena Martin, Danielle Rotolo, German Burset Romero, Emily Rambo, Anna Quezada, Alexis Bara, Andrew Demcher, and Cheng-Chung Lee.

“Princeton University’s Transfer Scholars Initiative offers a wonderful opportunity for our students to engage in classes and campus life at a prestigious Ivy League university. We are confident that this experience will help them as they navigate the process of transferring to a four-year institution,” said Dr. Karen Bearce, Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs at Raritan Valley Community College.

Students in the full-time program will take two for-credit Princeton University courses and participate in community-building activities. They will also have access to Princeton University campus facilities and academic support resources.

The academic courses offered include “Research and Argument in the Humanities and Social Sciences” and a Quant Lab course based on their academic interests. Classes available are “Visualizing Data,” “The Art and Science of Computer Programming,” “Foundations of Engineering,” “Humanistic Approaches to Media and Data,” or “Laboratory Research in the Life Sciences.”

After completing the TSI program, participants will engage in transfer success initiatives that extend into the fall. These initiatives include workshops focused on financial aid, researching four-year schools, curating application materials and recommendation letters, and drafting personal statements.
