The Governor's Conference on Housing and Economic Development has announced that nominations for the 2024 Governor’s Excellence in Housing and Economic Development Awards (GEHEDA) are now open. The deadline for submissions is Friday, July 5.
The awards recognize outstanding achievements in New Jersey’s housing and development sectors, celebrating individuals, organizations, and projects that align with the missions of the Governor’s Housing Conference Coordinating Agencies. These agencies include the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs, New Jersey Economic Development Authority, New Jersey Housing and Mortgage Financing Agency, and New Jersey Redevelopment Authority.
"The GEHEDA pay tribute to those whose contributions excelled the advancement of affordable and accessible housing opportunities for many of New Jersey’s residents," a spokesperson stated. By recognizing exemplary projects and initiatives, the awards aim to inspire further efforts to enhance the overall quality of life for all New Jerseyans.
The awards also seek to honor projects and individuals who significantly contribute to job creation and retention, as well as those investing in the state's economic future. By highlighting innovative economic development efforts, these awards foster sustainable business growth and prosperity.
Categories for the awards include:
- Leading Neighborhood Revitalization Partnership Award: Recognizing collaborative efforts that effectively revitalize neighborhoods.
- Adaptive Reuse Transformation Award: Honoring projects that creatively repurpose existing structures while contributing to economic growth.
- Innovative Economic Development Award: Acknowledging groundbreaking initiatives promoting economic prosperity.
- Excellence in Housing Development Award: Recognizing exceptional projects providing high-quality, affordable housing.
- Ronald L. Rice Impact Award: Paying tribute to significant impacts on housing or community improvement by non-profits or individuals.
- Small Business of Distinction Award: Acknowledging small businesses demonstrating excellence and innovation.
The 2024 GEHEDA will be presented at the Governor's Conference on Housing and Economic Development on September 17-18 at Harrah's Casino and Resort in Atlantic City. To submit a nomination or register for the conference, visit njhousingconference.com by July 5.
