Both JD Vance and Tim Walz engaged in a debate focusing on health care, specifically addressing drug prices. Despite discussing the importance of reducing these costs, neither candidate provided detailed plans regarding how their running mates would achieve this goal, according to experts who spoke with ABC News.
During the debate, Vance highlighted former President Trump's 2019 executive order. This order mandates that hospitals disclose standard charges, payer-specific negotiated charges, cash acceptance amounts, and the range of negotiated charges.
Vance emphasized the limitations of transparency in healthcare pricing: “Transparency is good … but if you have a health plan that covers one drug in a class of drugs that you need, transparency doesn’t help you at all,” he told ABC News. He further explained, “You may be able to use three different drugs but if only one’s in your employer’s plan, that’s it.”
