The African American Chamber of Commerce of New Jersey (AACCNJ) has announced the promotion of Carmen Gates and Vivian Harmon to senior leadership positions. These promotions, effective October 1, aim to enhance the organization's mission to support African American businesses and communities.
Carmen Gates assumes the role of Vice President of Community Development and External Affairs Officer. Previously, she served as Director of Training and Community Initiatives since 2021. Gates brings over 25 years of experience in administration and community outreach. In her new position, she will focus on community development initiatives and partnerships with corporations in New Jersey to address economic inequalities, healthcare disparities, and workforce diversity.
“I am grateful for this opportunity to serve in this new role that aligns with my passion for community engagement and external relations,” Gates stated. “I look forward to leveraging our resources to foster community development and strengthen our external partnerships.”
Vivian Harmon has been appointed as Executive Director of AACCNJ’s Training & Development Institute (TDI). Joining AACCNJ in 2022 as Senior Director for TDI, Harmon's leadership has expanded workforce development programs benefiting numerous New Jersey residents. A licensed social worker with degrees from Rutgers University, Harmon's career focuses on empowering people through meaningful partnerships.
