Hoboken station set for temporary closure in February 2025

The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey has announced the closure of the PATH Hoboken station from late evening on January 30, 2025, to early morning on February 25, 2025. This is part of a two-year, $430 million initiative known as the PATH Forward program. The closure will allow for essential track and station upgrades.

During this period, significant repairs will be made to the 116-year-old system. These include replacing in-station tracks, refurbishing the concrete platform surface, and repairing track leading to the station. "This closure will undoubtedly pose challenges for Hoboken riders," said Port Authority Chairman Kevin O’Toole. He emphasized that these efforts are crucial for maintaining safety and reliability.

Port Authority Executive Director Rick Cotton acknowledged the disruption but stated that a full closure allows for faster completion of extensive repair work. "We are committed to full transparency throughout this process," he added.

Clarelle DeGraffe, PATH Director/General Manager, noted that while customers may face inconvenience during this time, their patience is appreciated as improvements are made to enhance reliability.

To mitigate travel disruptions, regional transit partners have arranged alternatives such as expanded ferry services and shuttle buses connecting Hoboken with other stations. Additional details about schedules and fares can be found on the project website.

The Port Authority has scheduled informational sessions for those affected by the closure. These sessions will provide further details about alternative travel options available during this period.

The PATH Forward program includes comprehensive projects aimed at improving rail service reliability across multiple stations including Grove St., Newport, and Exchange Pl., alongside Hoboken. The program also involves modernization efforts such as bridge updates and train car rehabilitation.
