Heldrich Center explores DEI perceptions through national worker surveys

Since 2022, the Heldrich Center for Workforce Development has been investigating workers' views and experiences concerning racial and ethnic discrimination in the workplace, as well as their opinions on diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) policies. This study was funded by WorkRise at the Urban Institute and involved a survey of 3,277 full- and part-time U.S. workers, along with 20 detailed interviews to delve deeper into issues highlighted by the survey.

Jessica Starace, Survey Research Manager at the Heldrich Center, authored a new policy brief summarizing two methods for utilizing these findings. "Approach #1: Using the semi-structured interview protocols and selected findings to provide context to survey questions and inform future research efforts related to measuring and talking about discrimination, diversity, equity, and inclusion in the workplace."

The second approach outlined by Starace is "Using the study’s quantitative survey data, archived for public use, to encourage further substantive and methodological research." These approaches aim to aid policymakers, researchers, employers, and workers in conducting their own research related to DEI policies.
