Governor Landry signs major tax reform bills into law in Louisiana

Yesterday, Americans for Prosperity–Louisiana (AFP-LA) commended Governor Jeff Landry for signing significant tax reform bills into law. These reforms include flattening the individual income tax rate to 3%, adjusting the corporate income tax rate to 5.5%, and eliminating the franchise tax. AFP-LA believes these changes will simplify Louisiana's tax code, fostering growth and removing barriers to opportunity.

Scott Simon, AFP-LA State Director, stated: “Thanks to the work of our legislators and Governor, Louisiana is on a new path forward that will transform our state’s complex tax code and move to a more effective tax system that is simple, transparent, neutral, impartial, and predictable. The outcome of the special session ensures that Louisiana will become more competitive with our neighboring states, keeping our citizens and businesses invested well into the future.”

During the special session, AFP-LA engaged with over 20,000 Louisianans through telephone townhalls featuring Governor Jeff Landry and Secretary of the Department of Revenue Richard Nelson. These discussions focused on public concerns about taxes. Additionally, AFP-LA provided an online resource to inform residents about potential savings from the new tax reforms and encouraged them to contact their elected officials.
