Last week, Christopher Emigholz, the Chief Government Affairs Officer of NJBIA, appeared on the NJ Morning Show on ONNJ. He discussed the association's recent Public Policy Forum and NJBIA's 66th Annual Business Outlook Survey.
During his conversation with hosts Cara Di Falco and Dina Deleasa-Gonsar, Emigholz highlighted efforts to improve New Jersey's tax situation for businesses. He noted that this was a key focus during both the Public Policy Forum and in the survey.
"Business pay about half the property taxes in the state, and for a lot of small businesses it is the highest tax they pay," Emigholz stated.
He further expressed concern about New Jersey's taxing environment: "The thing about New Jersey that is troublesome to me is we have this unrelenting tax environment where the four major taxes are all very high. We’re unique in that we’re the only state in the nation where we’re in the top third of each of the four major taxes – property, income, sales and corporate taxes. That’s not something we want New Jersey to be known for."
