Michele Siekerka, President and CEO of the New Jersey Business & Industry Association (NJBIA), commented on the tentative agreement reached between the International Longshoremen’s Association (ILA) and the United States Maritime Alliance (USMX). The agreement concerns a six-year master contract.
Siekerka stated, "We are thrilled that ILA and USMX have reached this essential agreement as it appears to not only be a win-win for the sides involved, but also for the businesses and consumers who would have otherwise been greatly impacted by any work stoppage at our ports."
She emphasized the importance of New Jersey ports, saying, "Our New Jersey ports proudly serve as our gateways to goods that make up our way of life every day. It is critical that our supply chains remain strong and moving." She further noted that with this agreement in place, potential supply chain disruptions similar to those experienced during the pandemic can be avoided. This will help prevent shipping delays that could affect businesses.
