Garden State Parkway northbound traffic detoured overnight in February

Northbound traffic on the Garden State Parkway will be redirected at Exit 156 in Clifton for 15 nights throughout February. This detour is necessary to facilitate the demolition of part of the Passaic River Bridge.

The initial closure is planned from 11 p.m. on Monday, February 10, until 5 a.m. on Tuesday, February 11. During this period, traffic will be rerouted off the northbound Parkway at Exit 156 and directed approximately 1.5 miles eastbound on U.S. Route 46 before rejoining the Parkway at Interchange 157. Prior to the full detour, only one lane near Exit 156 will remain open for northbound vehicles. Drivers should plan for extra travel time during these overnight closures.

Southbound traffic will not be impacted by this detour.

For real-time updates during the closure, motorists can call 511, visit 511nj.org, or use the SafeTripNJ app. The Turnpike Authority's website offers travel alerts and live camera views under "Alerts" or "Cameras."

Demolition activities are subject to weather conditions. Updates on detour schedules can be found by following @GSParkway on X.

This project is part of an ongoing effort by the Turnpike Authority to replace and expand the lanes and shoulders of the Passaic River Bridge, which dates back over seventy years. Construction began in 2021 and is expected to continue until late 2026.
