The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey has announced a series of travel advisories for the week of February 21 to 27, affecting several major transportation hubs in the region. Travelers are encouraged to plan ahead and allow extra time due to scheduled lane closures and service changes.
Air travelers should be aware that ongoing construction at John F. Kennedy International Airport may cause delays or reroutes. The $19 billion redevelopment project aims to transform JFK into a world-class global gateway. The Port Authority advises using mass transit options like MTA subways, buses, or the Long Island Rail Road for airport access. For motorists, a free drop-off and pickup lot is available at the Lefferts Boulevard AirTrain JFK station.
At the George Washington Bridge, multiple eastbound and westbound lane closures are planned from Friday night through Saturday morning. Similarly, the Holland Tunnel will experience nightly closures of its New Jersey-bound tube due to Superstorm Sandy-related repairs.
The Lincoln Tunnel will have various tube closures over the weekend and early next week, while the Bayonne Bridge will see toll lane closures on Monday night and Wednesday during daytime hours.
For air travelers using Newark Liberty International Airport, LaGuardia Airport, or JFK Airport, pre-booking parking spaces is recommended to avoid surcharges and ensure availability. AirTrain Newark service will be suspended overnight from Saturday to Sunday for maintenance, with shuttle buses providing alternate transport.
PATH services are also affected as the Hoboken PATH station remains closed for critical repairs until Tuesday morning. Alternative travel options include expanded ferry services and shuttle buses.
"Travelers can visit Construction.JFKAirport.com for customized travel impacts," according to the Port Authority's statement.
For more information on specific lane closures or public transit alternatives during this period, travelers are advised to check official resources provided by the Port Authority.
