Arlene Pashman, a long-time senior editor for the Center for Urban Policy Research (CUPR), passed away on March 1, 2025, after a brief illness. She retired from the Bloustein School in May 2011.
David Listokin, a distinguished professor at the Bloustein School who worked with Arlene for over three decades at CUPR, shared his memories of working with her. He noted her professionalism and ability to transform rough drafts into polished prose. "Always the consummate professional, she transformed many a rough draft into polished prose with an uncanny ability to fact-check and find the most obscure of references," he said. Arlene edited technical manuscripts on various topics, handled book layouts with an artistic eye, perfected desktop publishing, and contributed to marketing and fulfillment of CUPR books impacting urban planning disciplines globally.
"All this was done with a smile, formidable energy, and a keen sense of wry humor," Listokin added. "She was always an exemplary caring, warm, and supportive colleague across the decades."
Born in Elizabeth, NJ, Arlene lived in Carteret before settling in Green Brook. A graduate of the Carteret School system, she worked at Rutgers University as an editor until retirement. Known for her humor and love for writing, she was a loving wife, grandmother, and sister who will be missed by family and friends.
