The New Jersey Economic Development Authority (NJEDA) recently hosted a roundtable discussion in Trenton, bringing together state legislators and Irish-American entrepreneurs. This event aimed to explore state support for the Irish business community and strengthen economic ties with Ireland.
Tim Sullivan, NJEDA's Chief Executive Officer, emphasized the commitment to fostering international relationships under Governor Murphy’s leadership. “Irish Americans are an integral part of New Jersey’s economic fabric," said Sullivan.
Steven Lenox, Director of the New Jersey Ireland Center, moderated the discussion that included representatives from the New Jersey General Assembly like Speaker Craig Coughlin, Majority Whip Carol Murphy, and Assemblyman William F. Moen Jr. Speaker Coughlin highlighted the strong business environment for Irish-American entrepreneurs in New Jersey. "The partnership between our two regions has already brought tremendous growth and opportunity," he stated.
Assemblywoman Murphy spoke about exploring future business opportunities with Ireland through initiatives like the American National & New Jersey Irish Caucus. Assemblyman Moen expressed gratitude for participating in the roundtable on St. Patrick’s Day, noting its significance in highlighting the role of the Irish American community in New Jersey's economy.
Lenox remarked on ongoing efforts to attract Irish companies to expand into the US by establishing a permanent economic development presence in Ireland.
Participants included Jimmy Ellis from Applegreen Electric and Michelle McCarthy of MCC Marketing Group. McCarthy praised New Jersey's environment for international businesses under Governor Murphy’s leadership.
