Governor Phil Murphy, alongside representatives from New Jersey Economic Development Authority (NJEDA), Princeton University, Microsoft, and CoreWeave, inaugurated the NJ AI Hub in West Windsor Township. This initiative aims to create a collaborative ecosystem for artificial intelligence research, innovation, education, and workforce development.
Located at 619 Alexander Road, the NJ AI Hub offers a space for AI startups to collaborate, fostering innovation and supporting diverse new innovators. "With the opening of the NJ AI Hub, we are moving forward in establishing New Jersey as a global leader in technology and innovation," stated Governor Murphy. He emphasized the potential for this hub to create sustainable jobs in New Jersey.
The NJ AI Hub, situated along New Jersey's "innovation corridor," will facilitate AI research and development in collaboration with New Jersey universities, community colleges, and vocational schools. It will focus on the ethical and responsible use of AI in various sectors, such as health, sustainability, finance, and technology.
Earlier this year, it was announced that Microsoft and CoreWeave would join Princeton University and the NJEDA as founding partners. "The partnership we celebrate today shows how the public, private and academic sectors can come together to spark innovation in artificial intelligence," said Princeton University President Christopher L. Eisgruber.
Microsoft Vice Chair and President Brad Smith expressed his support for the hub, saying, "The opening of the NJ AI Hub at Princeton represents a public-private partnership between the university and Microsoft that will support and drive economic opportunity for the state and greater region for decades to come."
CoreWeave’s co-founder and Chief Strategy Officer, Brian Venturo, highlighted the potential for local talent, stating, "Today’s ribbon-cutting demonstrates that New Jersey is not just participating in the AI revolution — we’re driving it."
NJEDA CEO Tim Sullivan mentioned the state's commitment to innovation led by partnerships with Princeton University, Microsoft, and CoreWeave. "With Princeton University, Microsoft, and CoreWeave as our partners in this endeavor, New Jersey is positioning itself to become a national leader in the AI industry," he stated.
The partners will invest over $72 million to support the hub's success, focusing on research and development, commercialization, and AI education and workforce development. The NJ AI Hub seeks to build on other investments, including the planned AI Venture Fund, to aid early-stage AI startups in New Jersey's strategic industries.
Plans for the AI Hub were announced in 2023 by Governor Murphy and President Eisgruber. It is set to benefit from the NJEDA’s Strategic Innovation Center initiative, with an anticipated NJEDA investment of up to $25 million over five years.
